How do you pair Israeli beds with American bedding OR American bedding with Israeli sheets? Check out the charts below!

If you’re like most Americans in Israel, you are totally lost when it comes to buying sheets in Israel for American size mattresses or vice versa. The sizes don’t match up AT ALL, and usually you’re left with sheets that barely fit the mattresses and have to be readjusted several times throughout the night, or sheets that are embarrassingly large and have to be folded in half to even fit on the mattress.
You also might be confused by the whole “zugi” size in Israel. When I first bought sheets in Israel for my American twin- size mattress, I thought “zugi” (“double”) referred to the number of sheets I was buying, ie TWO sets of sheets. I found a good sale and thought I lucked out with matching sheets for two beds! Well, turns out “zugi” is a size and so I really just bought one set of sheets that was way too large for my bed.
Your wedding time is a great time to invest in some good quality sheets that can lasted for many years to come. The last thing you want are sheets that don’t even fit the bed! That’s why we at La’Bayit Gifts compiled this guide to American vs. Israeli mattress sizes:
U.S. Mattress & Sheet Sizes
| U.S. Bed Names | U.S. Mattress Sizes | U.S. Fitted Sheet Sizes |
| Twin | 39” x 75” (99 x 191 cm) | 39” x 76” (99 x 193 cm) |
| Twin XL | 39” x 80” (96 x 203 cm) | 39” x 80” (96 x 203 cm) |
| Full/Double | 54” x 75” (137 x 191 cm) | 54” x 75” (137 x 190.5 cm) |
| Queen | 60” x 80” (153 x 203 cm) | 60” x 80” (153 x 203 cm) |
| King | 76” x 80” (193 x 203 cm) | 76” x 80” (190 x 203 cm) |
These are the standard sizes, although sizes can range depending on the store or brand.
Israeli Mattresses & Sheet Sizes
Israeli mattresses and sheets come in three standard sizes: Yachid, Mita Va’Chetzi and Zugi. As you can see from the charts, Israeli mattresses and sheets are generally either 190 cm or 200 cm in length. This will usually be slightly shorter than U.S. mattress and fitted sheet sizes. This means, for example, that if you have an American Twin XL mattress and you buy Israeli yachid fitted sheets, the sheets will be a bit tight… which often leads to the popping off of the fitted sheet at night.
| Israel Mattress Sizes |
| 80/200 cm |
| 90/200 cm |
| 140/190 cm |
| 140/200 cm |
| 160/190 cm |
| 160/200 cm |
| 180/200 cm |
| 200/200 cm |
| Israel Bed Names | Israel Fitted Sheet Sizes |
| Yachid | 90 x 200 cm (35.4” x 78.7”) |
| Mita Va’Chetzi | 120 x 200 cm (47.2” x 78.7”) |
| Zugi | 160 x 200 cm (63” x 78.7”) OR 180 x 200 cm (70.8” x 78.7”) |
Within the three Israeli categories, there can be various sizes of mattresses and sheets. For example, “zugi” describes multiple sizes of sheets, so it’s important to always look at the packaging of the sheets you are looking to buy to double check the measurements.
As you can see from the charts, if you are buying a new mattress in the US and sheets in Israel, your best bet for length would be to buy a twin or full/double bed (191 cm in length) with Israeli sheets (200 cm in length). This will prevent the tightness of the fitted sheets.
If you’re buying sheets in the U.S. for an Israel mattress, make sure to check the length of your mattress so you know whether it’s 190 or 200 cm. Twin XL sheets should fit a yachid mattress, queen sheets will fit (but be too wide) for a mita va’chetzi, full/double sheets might fit a mita va’chetzi mattress (but will likely be slightly too small in length), queen sheets may fit a zugi mattress (depending on the size of the queen sheets and the zugi mattress), and king size sheets will fit and be a bit large for the larger size zugi mattress.
Good to Know: Most Israeli bedding companies don’t sell sheets that will be big enough to fit U.S. king-size mattresses.
Happy shopping and wishing you comfy sleeps no matter where you buy your sheets and mattresses!
